Armenia’s capital investments in 2018–2025 exceeded the volume recorded during the most active investment period of Soviet Armenia in 1981–1988, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Thursday.
Pashinyan also said that housing construction in Armenia in 2025 exceeded the level recorded in Soviet Armenia in 1986, which he described as the peak year for housing construction in the Soviet period.
“I consider this important because, since independence, after the initial emotional reactions, our people very quickly developed feelings of nostalgia for the Soviet Union. This was connected to the fact that people saw roads being destroyed instead of being built, kindergartens being demolished instead of being built, and schools being demolished instead of being built.
“And the issue is not only about the numbers. I think that in this way our people are also overcoming nostalgia for the Soviet Union because they understand that the Republic of Armenia, their own state, is now encouraging them to look forward rather than backward. This is a very important point,” Pashinyan said at the Cabinet meeting.
