Armenia’s newly crowned European artistic gymnastics champion Artur Avetisyan said winning the gold medal at the European Championships was an unexpected result for him.
“I am truly immensely happy that I finally managed to become European champion after so many stages. The gold medal was unexpected for me as well. In the rings event, the Greek athlete Eleftherios Petrounias is very experienced. At international competitions, whether at the World or European Championships, he is an inspiration for me. After last year’s European Championships, when I won the bronze medal, I began to believe in myself more,” Avetisyan said at a press briefing.
The athlete emphasized that he now needs to work harder to move forward.
On August 21, at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, Artur Avetisyan scored 14.400 points in the rings event to become European champion.
