President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan visited the State Revenue Committee and met with SRC Chairman Eduard Hakobyan, the President’s Office said.
The SRC Chairman presented the President with an overview of the Committee’s current activities, reforms implemented in recent years, the main directions of strategic planning and upcoming developments.
The meeting also addressed the tax policy priorities set out in the Government’s programme and the main approaches to their implementation.
The sides discussed improving the effectiveness of tax administration, ensuring state revenues, strengthening tax discipline and developing cooperation between the state and businesses.
“President Vahagn Khachaturyan stressed that the effectiveness of the tax system should be assessed not only in terms of revenues collected, but also from the perspective of the environment created for economic development. In this context, the continued development of partnership relations between the State Revenue Committee and the business community was highlighted,” the statement said.
The meeting noted that the State Revenue Committee’s work should be based not on an approach of punishing businesses or identifying violations and imposing fines, but on supporting law-abiding businesses in order to make them more protected and secure in their relations with the state, ensure the proper fulfilment of tax obligations and create the necessary conditions for the unhindered development of business.
The importance of a predictable and fair tax environment was also stressed, one that simultaneously ensures stable growth in state revenues and promotes economic activity.
The statement added that the President emphasised the importance of the State Revenue Committee’s ongoing reforms, viewing them in the broader context of improving the effectiveness of public administration and the country’s economic development.
