90s disco icons to take stage at Armenia’s Retro Stars Fest

Retro Stars Fest, a new festival with a new format and scale, will be held in Armenia on September 20, bringing international stars of the 1990s—Haddaway, Mr. President, Dr. Alban and Boney M.—together on one stage, Unity Production co-founder, director and producer Alexander Mheryan told Armenpress.

He said the festival’s goal is not only to organize a concert but also to take the audience back to the 1990s for one day by creating a complete retro environment with themed decorations, photo zones and interactive areas.

Mheryan said that none of the aforementioned artists has performed in Armenia before, while Boney M. has never appeared before Armenian audiences in this lineup.

The festival, titled “Retro Stars Fest Disco Legends,” will take place at Aura by Adana Complex, located next to Adana Complex, about 10 kilometers from Yerevan. A new festival venue is being created specifically for the event, where the audience will find photo zones, games, giveaways, and food and beverage areas.

In addition to the international stars, Armenian artists and DJs who were popular in Armenia in the 1990s will also take the stage, allowing the audience to relive both international and Armenian retro nostalgia on the same day.

“We want people not simply to come, attend a concert for a few hours and leave, but to feel from the moment they enter the venue that they have been transported to another era,” Mheryan said.

He said bringing the international artists together on one stage has been a major organizational challenge, as their schedules are very busy, given the growing interest in 1990s music in recent years.

Mheryan also said that Retro Stars will become an ongoing brand, and major surprises are already being prepared for upcoming festivals, although the names of the participants have not yet been announced.
