Islamabad places great importance on strengthening ties with Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi has said.

In an interview with the TASS news agency, he spoke about the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia and stressed that Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Caucasus region share many similarities with Pakistan.

“For many years, we did not have diplomatic relations with Armenia, and I am very pleased that, following recent developments, the need to establish normal relations with Armenia has been recognized,” the ambassador said.

He emphasized that there are deep historical ties between the Caucasus region and Pakistan.

“I see many prospects for cooperation between Pakistan, Armenia, and the entire Caucasus region,” the ambassador said.

He added that Pakistan has a significant Armenian community.

“Few people know this, but one of the country’s highest military award recipients was a Pakistani soldier of Armenian origin. I have also been to Dubai, where many marriages have taken place between Armenians and Pakistanis. This contributes to people-to-people contacts, the development of trade, and cultural ties. I believe that Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Caucasus have much in common with Pakistan,” the diplomat noted.

Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said that he had dreamed of reading books about the history of the Caucasus since childhood.

“I have had the honor of visiting many countries in this region. We have historical ties with the Caucasus, and Armenia is a very important part of it. I see how people-to-people contacts and business ties between Armenia and Pakistan are developing today,” he concluded.

Armenia and Pakistan established diplomatic relations on August 31, 2025. On July 6, 2026, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan appointed Karen Grigoryan as Armenia’s Ambassador to Pakistan on a non-resident basis. Grigoryan also serves as Armenia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, with his residence in Abu Dhabi.
