Armenpress explores Chinese development experience during Xinjiang media tour

An Armenian media delegation, including Armenpress, visited China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from July 23 to 24 on an exploratory tour aimed at gaining insights into the region's rapid development.

During the visit, Armenpress English Department Editor-in-Chief Stepan Kocharyan shared his impressions in an interview with Tianshannet, a major English-language media outlet in Xinjiang, after touring Urumqi and visiting a community and cultural service center in the regional capital.

"I was here two years ago, in Urumqi and in several other cities across Xinjiang, and I am very grateful to our hosts for this invitation to see how the province and the city have been developing," Kocharyan said.

He noted that the transformation was immediately apparent.

"And here, we saw the level of attention the government is giving to all sectors of public life, and this facility, I think, is doing an amazing job in caring for so many families who represent so many ethnicities," he said.

Asked about his expectations for the trip, Kocharyan said he hoped to better understand the driving force behind China's development.

"I would very much like to see the driving force behind this development push. Our readers are very interested in the Chinese experience in development, mostly in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, because Xinjiang is a major hub and logistics center in the context of the BRI. All sectors in the province, including industry, business, social sectors and energy production, have been developing so rapidly that our readers want to know what the secret of Chinese success is. So, I expect to discover this success, to see how you guys are doing it and what the driving force behind it is," he said.

Following the Xinjiang visit, the Armenian media delegation traveled to Lanzhou, Gansu Province, for a three-day visit.
