The 30th International Folklore Festival will be held in Plovdiv from July 27 to 31, the Culture Department of Plovdiv Municipality said. The event is one of the city’s most eagerly anticipated annual cultural festivals, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported.
The anniversary edition will bring together folklore ensembles from three continents.
The programme will feature colourful daily parades, short open-air performances and main-stage shows.
The festival will open on the evening of July 27 with a gala concert at the Ancient Theatre, featuring ensembles from Georgia, Mexico, Peru, Romania and Montenegro, as well as the host Trakia Ensemble.
On July 28, international delegations will perform as part of a programme titled “Evening of World Rhythms.”
The festival will conclude with a gala concert featuring all participating ensembles.
According to the organisers, Georgia will be represented by the student ensemble of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University; Mexico by Ballet Folklórico del Ateneo Fuente; Peru by the 57-member Ritmos del Tiempo group; Romania by the professional Busuiocul Folk Ensemble from Bacău; and Montenegro by the Zahumlje Folk Ensemble.
Plovdiv Municipality said the city-based Trakia Ensemble, led by chief artistic director Professor Daniela Dzeneva, is regarded as a hallmark of Bulgarian folk dance.
