France captain Kylian Mbappe finished as the top scorer at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, winning the Golden Boot after scoring 10 goals during the tournament. He finished two goals ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who ended the competition with eight.
Mbappe also led the tournament in overall goal contributions, recording 10 goals and four assists.
The French forward made more history in the third-place match against England, scoring twice to overtake Messi as the all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history. Mbappe now has 22 World Cup goals, one more than Messi's 21.
France reached the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup before losing 2-0 to eventual champions Spain. Les Bleus then lost 6-4 to England in the third-place playoff.
Another France player also made history in the match against England. Midfielder Michael Olise provided two assists to finish the tournament with seven, breaking Pele's long-standing record of six assists in a single World Cup, set at the 1970 tournament.
