The Anti-Corruption Committee said on Thursday that several individuals have been arrested on suspicion of vote-buying for the Strong Armenia party, which is running for parliament as a bloc comprised of two other parties.
In a press release, the law enforcement agency said that it had gathered information amid an ongoing investigation that individuals in charge of the party’s office in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak district, together with accomplices comprising party supporters and others, had handed out and pledged bribes to voters ahead of the June 7 elections.
The Anti-Corruption Committee also released an audio recording which appears to show the suspects discussing the alleged scheme.
Authorities conducted searches and other measures during the investigation.
The law enforcement agency did not specify how many suspects have been placed under arrest.
