Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia, Alessandro Ferranti, the ministry said in a press release.
During the meeting, the agenda of bilateral relations was discussed, with emphasis placed on deepening cooperation in the fields of environmental protection and sustainable development.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development, signed in 2021, was also discussed. The document provides a basis for the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at increasing climate resilience, conducting risk and disaster assessments, conserving biodiversity, managing forest and water resources, improving waste management, and promoting the circular economy.
The participation of the Armenian delegation led by the Minister in the reopened session of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), held in Rome in 2025, was also discussed.
The parties also touched upon preparatory work for COP17. In this context, the Minister emphasized the importance of the high-level events titled "Taking Action for Nature" and "Agrifood Systems Taking Action for Nature," planned within the framework of the SBI-6 session to be held in Rome on February 16–19.
At the end of the meeting, the sides discussed a number of promising areas of cooperation, taking into account opportunities to exchange experience with Italy and expand joint initiatives.
