Armenia discusses construction of new nuclear power plant with several countries: PM

Armenia is discussing the issue of building a new nuclear power plant with several partners, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said,  touching upon the future of Armenia’s nuclear energy sector and the issue of closing the Metsamor nuclear power plant.

The Prime Minister noted that Armenia has undertaken an obligation to close the Metsamor nuclear power plant under the Armenia–EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which was signed during the tenure of Serzh Sargsyan.

“The fact that the Metsamor nuclear power plant must be closed is an obligation undertaken during Serzh Sargsyan’s presidency under the Armenia–EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. Now we are discussing the issue of building a new nuclear power plant with several partners: Russia, the United States, France, South Korea, and China,” Pashinyan said.
