Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation intends to swiftly start the implementation of a nuclear power plant construction project in Armenia, Izvestia newspaper reported, citing Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin.
“Rosatom is ready to begin implementing the project in a short time frame, naturally taking into account the wishes of our Armenian partners. In terms of the availability of reliable, proven technologies, as well as the attractiveness of the financial parameters, there are no real alternatives, including when construction, subsequent operation, and the need to train and retrain specialists are taken into account,” Galuzin noted, according to the report.
On February 6, Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, during his official visit to Moscow, met with Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev. The latter briefed him on the process of extending the lifecycle of the Armenian nuclear power plant. The construction of new nuclear power reactors was also discussed, according to the TASS news agency.
Rosatom Service and the Armenian NPP signed a deal in 2023 to extend the lifecycle of the Armenian nuclear power plant until 2036.
