U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show, calling it "absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER.”
In a post on social media, Trump called the show a "'slap in the face' to our country," saying there is "nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show."
"It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World," Trump wrote.
Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny has faced a wave of conservative backlash since he was announced as the Super Bowl performer last year, according to ABC News.
The Grammy-winning artist brought his Puerto Rican culture to the stage at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California, playing a collection of his hit songs in a predominantly Spanish performance. The show culminated with him showcasing the countries that make up the Americas, starting from the southern hemisphere with Chile to the northern hemisphere with Canada, and ending on Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny's birthplace.
Bad Bunny went on to perform a large collection of hit songs, including "BAILE INoLVIDABLE" and "NUEVAYoL," which he sang in front of a set design of a market called "La Marqueta."
One of the most-streamed artists in the world, Bad Bunny performed just a week after making Grammys history, winning album of the year for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos (I Should Have Taken More Photos),” the first Spanish-language album to claim the Recording Academy’s top prize. During the ceremony, he delivered a pointed political message in protest of recent actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement amid Trump’s sweeping immigration crackdown nationwide. Accepting the award for best música urbana album, Bad Bunny began his speech: “Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say: ICE out!”
“We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens,” he added. “We are humans and we are Americans.”
