Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Araksia Svajyan, led a delegation to the Fiscal and Education Decentralisation and Local Self-Government Reforms Conference, held on 2–5 February in Stockholm, Sweden.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan also took part in the conference, together with city officials and representatives of governmental and local self-government bodies, the ministry said in a press release.

Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Svajyan became acquainted with Sweden’s education governance system, in particular the Swedish model of decentralized school management. A number of meetings were held with representatives of Sweden’s education governance system, the Parliament, and the Stockholm City Council, during which challenges in the education sector and the main directions of reform were discussed. Special attention was given to issues of trust, accountability, and public oversight in the reform of the education system.
