Honorary Consulate of Romania opens in Armenia's Gegharkunik region

The Honorary Consulate of Romania in the Republic of Armenia was opened on February 6 in Gavar, Gegharkunik region.
The event was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Armenia Cornel Ionescu, Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister of Armenia Lilit Makunts, Member of the National Assembly and Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Artur Martirosyan, Governor of Gegharkunik Karen Sargsyan, Head of the Gavar community Gurgen Martirosyan, as well as heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of business circles, and figures from the education, arts, and culture sectors.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Consulate Room was performed by Ambassador Cornel Ionescu and the Honorary Consul of Romania in Armenia, Arman Andrikyan. The national anthems of Armenia and Romania were then played.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Ionescu noted that the opening of the Honorary Consulate would further deepen and develop Armenian-Romanian friendly relations, which have a centuries-old history.
Governor Karen Sargsyan described the opening of the Honorary Consulate as a significant event, emphasizing that this is the first time an Honorary Consulate has begun operating in the history of the Gegharkunik region.
Sargis Khandanyan also highlighted the importance of the event for the further development of Armenian-Romanian relations.
He noted that Armenian-Romanian relations have historically been friendly and stressed that Romania is an important partner for Armenia within European and Black Sea cooperation platforms.
According to him, the active involvement of the Armenian community in Romania demonstrates the strong potential for further strengthening ties between the two countries, which will gain new momentum through the activities of the consulate.
Deputy Minister Artur Martirosyan and newly appointed Honorary Consul Arman Andrikyan also delivered speeches. Andrikyan stated that the activities of the Honorary Consulate in Gavar aim to contribute to the development of bilateral relations in the economic, cultural, educational, and humanitarian spheres.
