Armenian FM, CoE Venice Commission President meet in Strasbourg

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met in Strasbourg with Marta Cartabia, the new President of the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission.
The FM and Marta Cartabia discussed Armenia’s cooperation with the Venice Commission. Both sides, with satisfaction, emphasized the active collaboration established in ensuring the rule of law, protecting human rights, and, more broadly, advancing legal reforms under the current complex conditions for democracy, the Foreign Ministry said in a readout.
FM Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted that, within the framework of an ambitious agenda of democratic reforms, Armenia values the Commission’s contribution to various legal initiatives, which is reflected in its advisory opinions.
Attention was given to the challenges of protecting human rights in the context of the development of digital platforms, as well as to the importance of developing and implementing effective mechanisms to address these challenges.
Thoughts were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
