Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday highlighted the government’s “huge” increase in funding for the science sector in recent years.

He said that 142 scientific equipment items worth around 13 billion drams (34.3 million USD) have been acquired in Armenia’s science sector from 2021 to 2026.

In 2025 alone, the government allocated 40.2 billion drams to the science sector, compared with 14 billion in 2018.

“You can see the significant growth,” Pashinyan said at the Cabinet meeting.

He then listed the minimum salary increases for science workers, ranging from 100 to 300 percent. He clarified that this pertains to the minimum wage of scientists who don’t participate in other scientific projects. “But because of the huge growth in science funding, there are few cases where scientists don’t engage in other projects,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan also noted the investments made in acquiring scientific equipment, emphasizing that, in addition to salaries, modern technical infrastructure is also important for the effectiveness of science.

“From 2021 to 2026, approximately 13 billion drams were allocated for 142 scientific equipment items, including the supercomputer at Yerevan State University. The costs for its acquisition and installation amounted to 3.7 billion drams,” the Prime Minister said.
