The government of Armenia approved a pilot program at its December 25 meeting to provide state support for access to high-performance computing resources in the field of artificial intelligence. This program will be implemented in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the largest American technology companies, within the framework of the Artificial Intelligence Virtual Institute (AIVI).
Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan commented: "With this initiative, we aim to support startups, research teams, educational institutions, and individual experts working in the field of artificial intelligence by providing high-performance computing resources for the design, training, and deployment of AI systems. The program is designed not only to stimulate individual initiatives but also to ensure the sustainable and long-term development of the high-tech sector ecosystem, in line with the state policy of support for the sector.”
He added that the Artificial Intelligence Virtual Institute, launched by the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, serves as an open platform for innovation and collaboration, supporting technology companies and researchers throughout the entire process of scientific research and product development.
The program will be implemented through the provision of subsidies to Amazon Web Services (AWS), under which the value of computational resources actually used by selected beneficiaries will be fully subsidized. Additionally, AWS will provide technical expertise by involving AWS solution architects and leveraging leading international experience. The Artificial Intelligence Virtual Institute is also supported by international partners Mistral AI and Plug and Play, which contribute to strengthening the initiative’s innovative and collaborative components.
Registration for applications will begin on December 29 on the platform of the Artificial Intelligence Virtual Institute at ai.gov.am.
