Local self-government elections to take place in 46 communities next fall

Local self-government elections will be held in 46 communities in Armenia in the fall of 2026, Central Electoral Commission Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said at a press conference.

“Next fall, we will have major local self-government elections. According to the current schedule, elections will take place in 46 communities,” Hovakimyan said.

In the communities of Fioletovo and Lermontovo in Lori Province, Ferik in Armavir Province, Arevut, Metsadzor, and Shamiram in Aragatsotn Province, and Arzni in Kotayk Province, the elections will be held under a majoritarian system.

Elections will be conducted under a proportional system in the regional centers of Artashat, Ashtarak, Armavir, Gavar, Vanadzor, Hrazdan, Kapan, Yeghegnadzor, and Ijevan. The proportional voting system will also be used in the communities of Aparan, Ararat, Masis, Araks, Baghramyan, Metsamor, Martuni, Sevan, Vardenis, Tumanyan, Spitak, Stepanavan, Pambak, Abovyan, Garni, Tsaghkadzor, Nairi, Nor Hachn, Akhuryan, Amasia, Ashotsk, Artik, Goris, Meghri, Tatev, Tegh, Vayk, Jermuk, Dilijan, and Noyemberyan.

The electoral authority has set three election dates for the local government elections: the last Sunday of September, the last Sunday of October, and the last Sunday of November.
