Council of Europe ready to support Armenia in strengthening human rights protection – Head of Council of Europe office in Yerevan

The Council of Europe stands ready to continue supporting the Republic of Armenia in its efforts to strengthen the protection of human rights through expertise and cooperation programs, based on the long-standing partnership rooted in the joint action plan.
Maxime Longangué, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, made the remarks at an event marking the launch of AI-NEMRA, Armenia’s Institutional Network for Monitoring and Reporting.
He noted that the initiative is an important step that ensures the systematic implementation of recommendations.
“Today’s launch of the digital tool demonstrates the determination of Armenian institutions to strengthen this process and to more firmly anchor human rights work at all levels of government.”
“The Council of Europe is very pleased to see that the recommendations of several of our monitoring bodies are also included in the platform, in particular the recommendations stemming from the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and a number of other reports,” the Head of the Council of Europe Office said.
According to him, all these reports and recommendations are at the center of Armenia's dialogue with the Council of Europe and contribute to the continuous improvement of national legislation, institutions, and practice.
“By bringing together the different strands of Armenia’s human rights commitments, this initiative can contribute to greater clarity, coordination, and continuity, as well as transparency and accountability in raising public awareness of these recommendations and commitments.
It can help national institutions work with greater accountability and support a more informed dialogue with international partners, including the Council of Europe’s monitoring bodies.
