Ombudsperson raises ‘contentious’ arbitrary detention of Armenians in Azerbaijan in meeting with OSCE PA Vice President

Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, has met with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Vice President and OSCE PA Special Representative on the South Caucasus, Luís Graça.
Anahit Manasyan outlined the main directions of her work and the existing challenges in the field of human rights protection in Armenia, her office said in a press release.
The parties discussed a number of human rights-related issues, including the importance of addressing discrimination, hate speech, and the atmosphere of intolerance, as well as the work being carried out in this regard.
The Human Rights Defender spoke on a range of rights-related issues, including the protection of the rights of persons forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
She also spoke about the importance of safeguarding rights within the framework of criminal proceedings, and the standards governing the lawfulness of pre-trial detention.
"Manasyan specifically highlighted the contentious nature, from a human rights perspective, of the processes pertaining to the arbitrarily detained Armenians in Azerbaijan," the Ombudsperson's office said.
Among other topics, the discussion also addressed issues related to expanding cooperation in the field of human rights protection and promotion.
