Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan's defense team appeals 2-year prison verdict

The defense team of Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, Primate of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, has appealed to the Court of Appeals the verdict of the court of first instance, by which Archbishop Ajapahyan was sentenced to two years in prison, his team announced.

The defense attorneys requested that the verdict be fully overturned and a new judicial act issued declaring Archbishop Ajapahyan’s innocence.

Archbishop Ajapahyan has been charged with advocating the overthrow of the government. He has denied wrongdoing.
