Armenian Speaker of Parliament expects Azerbaijan to display will for final signing of peace treaty

Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan said he expects Azerbaijan to display desire and will for the final signing of the peace treaty.

“It is obvious to us, to our Azerbaijani partners, and to the world that Armenia has done everything beyond its capacity to ensure peace in the region, and that this peace—though fragile—has been established. We have done everything and will continue to do everything to ensure that peace is formalized in a final agreement,” the Speaker told reporters.

Time is needed to resolve all issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Simonyan added.

‘It is incredible—we have not fired at each other for almost two years. Nothing like this has happened since independence,’ said Alen Simonyan.

Armenia and Azerbaijan initialed a peace agreement on August 8 in Washington, D.C. Armenia has expressed its readiness to sign the treaty as soon as possible, but Azerbaijan has set a precondition, stating that Armenia must amend its constitution—something Yerevan has rejected as baseless.
