The rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University, Ms. Srbuhi Gevorgyan, was granted bail by a Yerevan court after being arrested on bribery-related charges.
Ms. Gevorgyan’s lawyer, Karen Gabrielyan, said the court rejected the investigator’s motion to place her in pre-trial detention.
The Anti-Corruption Committee told Armenpress that the court released the rector on a 20,000,000 dram bail and placed her under house arrest.
Several other university staff members were also arrested alongside the rector on October 17.
Authorities stated that the individuals are suspected of "establishing and leading a criminal syndicate composed of various university employees, committing large-scale embezzlement and fraud, and receiving bribes."
Gevorgyan has served as rector since 2022.
She denies any wrongdoing.
