Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan sentenced to two years in prison

By the decision of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, Primate of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Judge Armine Meliksetyan announced the verdict, noting that the term will be calculated from the moment of his actual detention.

Public prosecutor  had requested a prison sentence of two years and six months.

Ajapahyan was charged with making public calls aimed at usurping power, violating territorial integrity, renouncing sovereignty, or overthrowing the constitutional order by force. He was arrested on June 28.
