Armenpress Director Narine Nazaryan attended the Bulgarian Independence Day celebration in Veliko Tarnovo, the historic city in north-central Bulgaria.

The event took place at the Forty Holy Martyrs Church, where Prince Ferdinand declared the independence of Bulgaria in 1908.

On September 10, 1998, the 38th National Assembly passed a resolution declaring September 22 a public holiday named Bulgaria Independence Day.

The celebrations marking the 117th anniversary of Bulgarian independence began with a Mass.

Nataliya Kiselova, Speaker of the Parliament of Bulgaria, and Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov were among the attendees.

Kiselova emphasized the significance of the day in terms of national identity. The Speaker of Parliament added that the issue of independence, aside from the recognition of identity, also lies in the fact that the Bulgarian state must assert and retain its interests. The Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo, Daniel Panov, noted that their ancestors have passed down an independent and free Bulgaria, which must be developed to ensure a better future for children.

Festive cultural events will continue throughout the day. Nazaryan is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of Kiril Valchev, the Director-General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
