Armenian, French foreign ministries hold political consultations

Political consultations between the Armenian and French foreign ministries were held in Paris on September 16.

Vahan Kostanyan, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia, and Brice Roquefeuil, the Head of the Continental Europe Directorate of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, chaired the consultations, the Armenian foreign ministry said in a press release.

During the consultations, the sides discussed existing cooperation programs between the two countries in the fields of defense, economy, culture, and infrastructure, as well as the prospects for their development and expansion.

The discussions also addressed cooperation within international organizations and other multilateral platforms. In this context, the sides emphasized the importance of mutual support and additional efforts to align approaches on issues of particular significance and sensitivity for both countries.

Issues on the Armenia-EU partnership agenda were touched upon. In this context, France's positive role in expanding and advancing the agenda in question was stressed.

In-depth discussions also were held on the steps being undertaken by both sides towards establishing a strategic partnership between Armenia and France.

The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in the context of two major international events to be hosted by Armenia next year: the European Political Community Summit and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17).

Views were exchanged on the key regional and international issues, including the agreements reached in Washington within the framework of the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, as well as the Armenian-Turkish normalization process.
