More than 16,000 forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh have been granted Armenian citizenship so far, according to an interior ministry official.

“As of September 2, we had over 16,000 applications – 11,259 who have been granted by presidential decree and over 5,000 minors who obtained citizenship by change of passport when their parents were granted citizenship. This means that so far over 16,000 of our compatriots from Nagorno-Karabakh have received citizenship of Armenia,” Armen Ghazaryan, the Deputy Minister of Interior, told lawmakers at a parliamentary committee meeting.

He said authorities are now working to further simplify the process, which had already been facilitated for the displaced persons of NK.
