Iran is “sensitive” towards the possible presence of non-regional forces in the South Caucasus, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reiterated on Monday.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Emsaeil Baghaei said at a press briefing that the unblocking of transport and economic connections in the South Caucasus – including the establishment of connection between the main part of Azerbaijan to its exclave of Nakhchivan through Armenia’s south - shall take place without the violation of Armenia’s internationally recognized borders or contradiction to its sovereignty, Mehr news agency reported.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Tehran has been reassured that the upcoming partnership with the US will be part of an enterprise registered in Armenia.
He emphasized that the Washington accords signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan highlights the principles of preserving territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of borders.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and we will convey our concerns to the region’s countries if needed,” he said, according to Mehr news agency.
