Former Turkish MP calls on Erdogan to open border with Armenia

Former Turkish Member of Parliament Garo Paylan has called on President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to “immediately” open the land border with Armenia.

Paylan, now a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment think tank, released a statement after the Armenian-Azerbaijani accords signed in Washington, D.C., on August 8.

“The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a HISTORIC agreement, ending decades of hostility, in the presence of U.S. President Trump,” Paylan said in a post on X. “Our duty is to take urgent steps to ensure this peace is permanent. Dear Erdoğan: Open the Turkey-Armenia border immediately! Bring the peoples of Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan together. Let us take this step now…”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke by phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday and emphasized that the atmosphere for the implementation of previously achieved agreements is now more favorable than ever.
