Thailand storm kills six

Floods and landslides triggered by Tropical Storm Wipha since last month have killed six people and affected more than 230,000 people across Thailand, AFP reported citing local disaster management officials.

Since 21 July, heavy rains have inundated 12 provinces, mostly in the northern and central regions, AFP quoted Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation as saying in a statement.

Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said it is coordinating with affected provinces to assist those in need.

While Thailand experiences annual monsoon rains between May and October, scientists say man-made climate change is causing more intense weather patterns that can make destructive floods more likely, according to AFP.
