Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan delivered remarks during the Building Sustainable Peace: Bridging Security and Development in Vulnerable Environment discussion at the annual Hamburg Sustainability Conference.
Speaking about the idea of sustainable peace, the Deputy FM underscored the importance of an inclusive approach in conflict prevention, namely combination of security, development and regional cooperation.
He emphasized the importance of effective arms control mechanisms for preserving peace and security both globally and regionally, the foreign ministry said in a press release.
In context of strengthening transparency and trust in the South Caucasus, the Deputy FM spoke about Armenia’s proposal to Azerbaijan on creating a mutual arms control and border incident investigation mechanism.
Abisoghomonyan attached importance to the role of the EU monitoring mission (EUMA) in ensuring border stability.
He also underscored the role of interconnectivity as a guarantee for peace, stability and development in the region. In this context the unblocking of infrastructures in South Caucasus and Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace project were discussed.
