Macron backs Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty

The normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is essential for stability in the South Caucasus, French President Emmanuel Macron stated in a post on X, expressing full support for Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"Meeting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Albania, on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit, I reaffirmed my support for the signing of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan as soon as possible," Macron said.

The French President emphasized that "the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is essential for stability in the region."

"Full support for Armenia, its territorial integrity, and sovereignty," he added.

Macron noted that his meeting with Prime Minister Pashinyan also focused on another important issue - the oceans.

"We are working closely in preparation for the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice in June, as well as the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which Armenia is preparing to host in 2026," Macron posted.

A meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron was held in Tirana on May 16.

The interlocutors highly appreciated the dynamic development of Armenia-France relations, emphasizing that high-level contacts and constructive political dialogue contribute to the expansion of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The parties discussed a number of issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, as well as touched upon regional and international developments.

In particular, the importance of signing the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement and the implementation of continuous and consistent steps in this direction was emphasized.

 President Macron emphasized France's steadfast support for the peace process, noting that stability and security in the South Caucasus are of vital importance for the regional cooperation in general.

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged ideas on the further deepening of Armenia-European Union relations, as well as on promoting the agenda of democratic reforms in our country.
