Speaker Simonyan, Kazakh Senate chairman discuss regional developments

Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, during his official visit to Kazakhstan, met with the Chairman of the Senate Maulen Ashimbayev.

During the meeting Speaker Simonyan praised the interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the parliament’s press service said in a readout. 

Issues pertaining to the regional developments and the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process were discussed.

The Speaker of Parliament presented the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project and attached importance to the unblocking of regional infrastructures.

The establishment of direct, regular flights between the two countries was highlighted. The Speaker especially underscored the level of care by Kazakh authorities and people for the Armenian community.

The opportunities of cooperation in digitization and IT were also discussed.

Ashimbayev welcomed the election of Armenia as host country for COP-17 and said that Kazakhstan will also participate in the forum.

The Speaker of Parliament of Armenia earlier met with the Speaker of the Mazhilis (lower house) of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Erlan Koshanov. A meeting with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also took place on May 14.
