Minister of Environment, Italian Ambassador discuss deepening Armenia–Italy cooperation in environmental protection

Minister of Environment of Armenia Hakob Simidyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Armenia, Alessandro Ferranti.

The meeting focused on opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of environmental protection. Both sides emphasized the importance of promoting joint programs and exchanging experience, taking into account the atmosphere of mutual trust between Armenia and Italy, as well as the shared challenges on their agendas.

Minister Simidyan briefed the Ambassador on the steps taken by the Armenian government to protect the environment. On social media, the minister stated: “Presenting the ongoing initiatives aimed at environmental protection, I particularly emphasized the importance of hosting the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP-17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in 2026 in Yerevan.”

The parties also discussed the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2021 between the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia and the Transitional Ministry of the Environment of Italy, which serves as a basis for developing joint initiatives in various environmental areas.

Minister Simidyan described the meeting as a significant step toward deepening dialogue between the two countries in the environmental sphere and identifying opportunities for long-term cooperation.
