The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia plans to develop a legislative draft that will establish specific deadlines for court proceedings, Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan said at the “Justice as a Tool to Achieve Fairness” conference held in Yerevan.
“Indeed, it is understandable that there is an objective workload, but it should also be possible to manage this workload. There are judges who, under the same workload, examine and complete cases much faster, sometimes even with a difference of years,” the Minister of Justice said.
The Minister added that the decision will be discussed with partners to explore the possibility of extending the time limits. Galyan concluded by saying that clear criteria should be established, based on which judges will be able to extend the deadlines for examining cases, through a reasoned decision.
