Armenia all geared up to host 2025 IIHF World Championship Division IV int’l ice hockey tournament

Armenian sports authorities on Friday said the country was ready to host the 2025 IIHF World Championship Division IV international ice hockey tournament, stressing that the event could mark the development of the sports culture.

“The development of winter sports has special importance to us,” Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan said at a press conference. “I am happy that since 2023 we’ve had a hockey league in Armenia that has been promoting ice hockey, as well as club sports…”

She added that the country must further develop infrastructures for winter sports.

Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan highlighted the fact that after 15 years of hiatus the Armenian national ice hockey team will once again participate in an international tournament.

He said that Yerevan City Hall has been greatly focused on culture and sports. “New projects of significant scale are underway in all areas where we can provide support,” he said.

Meanwhile, the general secretary of the Armenian ice hockey federation, Aram Sargsyan, said the Armenian team has high chances of winning in the tournament.

IIHF honorary president Rene Fasel will visit Armenia to watch the tournament.

The tournament will be held in Yerevan, Armenia, from 13 to 19 to April 2025.
