Vietnam expresses support to Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process

Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan has met with his Vietnamese counterpart Trần Thanh Mẫn who is on an official visit in Armenia. 

Speaker Simonyan thanked Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman for accepting his invitation to visit Armenia. The Vietnamese top legislator thanked for the warm reception and said he was impressed with the visit, the parliament’s press service said in a readout.

An enlarged format meeting with participation of delegations took place afterwards. The sides discussed various items pertaining to the bilateral agenda, emphasizing intensification of interparliamentary cooperation, particularly the ties between parliamentary friendship groups.

Speaker Simonyan spoke about the concluded draft peace agreement with Azerbaijan and reiterated Armenia’s readiness to swiftly sign it. In response, Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman said his country supports the process of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and strengthening regional stability.

During the meeting the sides discussed the intensification of economic ties between Armenia and Vietnam and the need for developing concrete steps in that direction. 

Simonyan also drew his Vietnamese counterpart’s attention to the issue of the unlawfully held Armenian POWs in Azerbaijan.

The sides then signed an agreement on cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Vietnam.
