6.2-magnitude earthquake strikes near southern Japan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck near the southern coast of Japan on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake occurred 54 kilometers northeast of Nishinoomote, off the coast of the island of Tanegashima, at a depth of 26 kilometers.
