SCO 2025 held in Urumqi under theme “Building a Beautiful Home Together for a Prosperous Future”

The 2025 Media Cooperation Forum of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Countries was held today in Urumqi, the capital of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, under the theme "Building a Better Home Together for a Prosperous Future." 

According to an Armenpress correspondent in China, this year’s event was attended by more than 300 media and business representatives, officials, and experts from 26 member states of the SCO, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan.

Representatives from observer countries and SCO dialogue partners also participated in the forum.

SCO Deputy Secretary General Sohail Khan was among the attendees. Yu Shaoliang, Executive Director of the Chinese newspaper he People’s Daily (Rénmín Rìbào), noted that since its establishment in 2001, the SCO has consistently adhered to the "Shanghai Spirit", the principles of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, mutual consultation, respect for cultural diversity, and the pursuit of common development.

“The organization firmly supports the protection of the core interests and key concerns of its member states, becoming a reliable partner in their development and prosperity. Guided by the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, the SCO has achieved significant progress, deepening political trust among member states, delivering notable results in economic integration, ensuring effective security cooperation, and enriching humanitarian exchanges,” said Yu.

Forum participants emphasized that the media of SCO countries should analyze transformations in the media landscape from a global perspective, adopt innovative approaches to identify new opportunities, and jointly fulfill their professional mission.

They noted the importance of objective and impartial coverage to highlight the goals and significance of cooperation within the SCO framework and contribute to fostering a positive information environment.

In their brief speeches, participants stressed the need to publicize the achievements of the SCO, promote the “Shanghai Spirit,” and strengthen mutual understanding among peoples.

During the forum's opening, the report titled Common Home: Public Opinion on the Development Visions in SCO Member States was presented.

As part of the media representatives’ conference, the “Program for the Exchange and Promotion of Video Content between the Media of the SCO Countries” was also launched.

Following the forum, Chinese and foreign media representatives delivered thematic reports focused on Xinjiang.
