Armenia requests more European Peace Facility aid

The EU is becoming a more important partner for Armenia in security, Deputy FM Paruyr Hovhannisyan has said.

Speaking at the Armenian parliament’s European integration committee meeting, Hovhannisyan recalled that Armenia and the EU have already launched political and security dialogue, and two sessions have been held so far.

“We are discussing new formats where we must start more active work around defense and security issues. That’s why for the first time a big part of the new partnership agenda, which is under discussion, is dedicated to security, there is a separate chapter about it,” Hovhannisyan said.

He said that the EU is now discussing the agenda of strengthening security, which opens new prospects for cooperation with Armenia.

He said that the European Peace Facility is a very concrete and tangible program in the defense sector. “We have already presented the second application for 2025 and rather active work is underway with the defense ministry,” he said.

The EU decided to support Armenia from the European Peace Facility for the first time in 2024.
