Peace and normalization with Azerbaijan are in Armenia’s interest, FM Ararat Mirzoyan has said.

“Peace is the only way of Armenia’s existence,” he told lawmakers at a parliamentary committee hearing on Friday.  “Peace and normalization of relations with Azerbaijan are in the interests of the Republic of Armenia.”

He said that some issues are yet to be resolved.

“Of course, there are issues that the sides have differing views on. They have demands which we do not share. There are demands and expectations that we have, but which they don’t share. There are issues, which could remain unresolved after working together on them, for example determining the fate of the missing persons and other issues. The tangle and group of complexities is really big. But peace is not an easy process at all,” the FM said, admitting that there are issues.

The governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan announced on March 13 that the negotiations around the text of the peace treaty have been successfully concluded. The date and location of signing the agreement are yet to be determined. Numerous countries have lauded the achievement and expressed hope for swift signing of the treaty.
