The European Union will introduce trade countermeasures against US goods from April 1 in response to Washington's tariffs, Maros Sefcovic, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, and European Commissioner for Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency, announced, Tass reported.
"The U.S. has chosen unjustified tariffs, leaving us with no choice but to respond. The currently suspended EU's rebalancing measures will return on 1 April," he wrote on the X social network.
In addition, Sefcovic confirmed that the European Commission is preparing a new package of countermeasures by mid-April. "The disruption is avoidable. We're ready to negotiate," he added.
On Wednesday, the European Commission (EC) announced that it was taking "swift and proportionate response" against US imports to the EU in response to new US tariffs on EU steel and aluminium imports. According to a statement, the EC said that overall, EU retaliatory measures could affect up to 26 bln euros in US exports, which is the economic scale of the US tariffs."
The EC said that the EU remains ready to work with the US administration to find a negotiated solution.
