Summing up the visit of the UN Biodiversity Convention Executive Secretary to Armenia

As part of the organization and hosting of the COP17 conference, Astrid Shoemaker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, was in Armenia on an official visit from March 3-7.

During her visit, Shoemaker met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan, and Minister of Internal Affairs Hakob Simidyan. She also held meetings with the Chairman of the COP17 Organizing Committee, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan. Discussions took place with partners from the bodies involved in organizing and hosting COP17.

Additionally, Shoemaker met with members of the COP17 Organizing Committee, ambassadors, embassy representatives, and representatives of international organizations accredited to the Republic of Armenia.

The visit focused on the significance of COP17, key needs, potential areas of cooperation with international partners, and the next steps forward.
