The release of Armenian prisoners illegally held in Baku is on the agenda of the Armenian government and is one of its priorities, Foreign Minister Mirzoyan stated during a Q&A session with Cabinet members in parliament.
While addressing former Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan’s proposal to suspend Armenia-Azerbaijan peace talks as a solution to the issue of hostages held illegally in Baku, Mirzoyan called it absurd.
"The Republic of Armenia is sincerely interested in continuing peace talks and normalizing relations with Azerbaijan," Mirzoyan said.
The Foreign Minister assured that the Armenian authorities would make constructive efforts to ensure that peace becomes a reality as soon as possible and that all existing issues are resolved, including the release of prisoners and detainees.
According to Mirzoyan, this is certainly one of the government's priorities and is on the agenda.
Addressing the action organized in front of the Foreign Ministry building a few days ago, where participants demanded that all diplomats accredited in Armenia be invited to discuss the issue, Mirzoyan said: "We are committed to the release of all detainees and POWs, not only through pompous statements and public activity, but also through concrete efforts, primarily through diplomatic channels."
The Foreign Minister recalled that since the 2020 war, more than 150 individuals have been taken captive, and most of them have been returned to the homeland.
