Iran's Chargé d'Affaires summoned to Turkish Foreign Ministry

Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited the chargé d’affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Ankara on Tuesday for discussions on bilateral issues.

Oncu Keceli, the spokesperson for Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, said, “We regularly meet with Iranian officials for consultations. Today, we invited Iran’s chargé d’affaires to the ministry,” Tasnim reported.

He added that the meeting covered bilateral matters and included discussions on recent remarks made by some Iranian officials against Turkey.

“We believe that foreign policy issues should not be used as a tool for domestic politics under any circumstances,” Keceli stated.

“In this regard, we prefer to convey any necessary critical messages directly to the relevant parties,” Tasnim quoted him as saying.

Emphasizing the importance of Ankara-Tehran relations, he said, “We highly value our relationship with Iran. Strengthening ties between Turkey and Iran remains a priority for us.”

According to the source, the meeting follows a similar move by Iran on Monday when Tehran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Turkish Ambassador Hicabi Kirlangic.

Iranian Foreign Ministry official Mahmoud Heidari had urged Turkey to avoid making statements that could harm mutual interests, stressing the need for regional cooperation amid ongoing tensions.
