YEREVAN, JANUARY 8, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the National Security Service and participated in a session dedicated to National Security Service Officer’s Day. He congratulated the employees on the occasion and expressed his gratitude for their dedicated service and work.
“I am pleased to note that in 2024, the National Security Service successfully fulfilled its assigned tasks. I must also emphasize that the changes implemented within the National Security Service are highly significant in terms of the operational logic of special services in a democratic society. The main essence of these changes is that leadership personnel no longer hold civil public positions. This, however, does not diminish, but rather underscores, the importance of officer and military service,” Pashinyan stated.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that, indeed, in 2024, the National Security Service has significantly increased trust and confidence in itself through its actions and activities. He noted that every year, Armenia has a more efficient service capable of ensuring the security of the state and society.
“Additionally, it is known that the National Security Service has prevented several large and significant terrorist attacks. Despite the very difficult situations we have faced in recent years, we have been able to maintain the security and stability of the Republic of Armenia,” Pashinyan said.
“However, our state bodies, including the National Security Service, have been fully capable of maintaining law and order. This demonstrates the development of the institutional capabilities of our law enforcement system and the National Security Service,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Pashinyan also highlighted the National Security Service’s successful role and activities in the field of counterintelligence.
“We have discussed agent networks at various political levels and talked about the fifth column. In recent years, the National Security Service has uncovered numerous networks, some of seemingly incredible scale. This, in my view, yet another evidence of the service's efficiency and ongoing development.”
The Head of the Government reiterated that following the popular, non-violent Velvet Revolution in 2018, there were no disruptions within the National Security Service or the law enforcement system.
Pashinyan noted the importance of giving special attention to state institutions, emphasizing that any attack on such institutions—whether by the opposition, the government, an official, or an ordinary citizen—undermines the foundation of stability and governance.
On the occasion of the day, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan awarded a group of National Security Service employees with the Armenian Prime Minister's commemorative medal in recognition of their contributions to strengthening the security, law and order, and legality of the homeland.
