Foreign Minister Mirzoyan, UN Resident Coordinator discuss issues of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. On December 20 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Françoise Jacob, the foreign ministry said.

The interlocutors touched upon the main directions of cooperation between Armenia and the United Nations, as well as the joint programs implemented within this framework. Among other topics, the preparatory work for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biodiversity, to be held in Armenia in 2026, and issues of cooperation with relevant UN bodies were discussed.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Françoise Jacob exchanged views on ensuring the UN effectiveness in the context of current geopolitical developments, in line with the mandate and goals of the organization.

Steps taken towards implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals were also discussed.

The steps aimed at addressing the long-term needs of Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and issues of cooperation with international partners in that direction were touched upon.
