Armenian Weightlifting Federation president hails Lalayan’s historic world championships gold

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. The Weightlifting Federation of Armenia President Hrachya Rostomyan has praised Varazdat Lalayan for his performance at the 2024 IWF World Championships.
Lalayan won gold in the +109 kg category, a historic achievement in Armenian sports.
“The world’s strongest weightlifter is Armenian,” Rostomyan said in a statement. “For the first time in history Armenia has a world champion in the superheavyweight weightlifting category. Varazdat Lalayan is making our dream come true and is showing to the world once again that the Armenian weightlifting school is among the finest in the world.”
Lalayan won gold with a total result of 467kg (215 snatch and 252 clean and jerk).
