UEFA Women's Nations League: Armenia aims for winning streak after spectacular start

Armenia women's national football team captain Maral Artin says that her team’s latest wins are the result of many years of hard work.

“There are no easy matches in the national teams,” Artin told Armenpress after her team’s second consecutive victory in the league phase of UEFA Women's Nations League.

Armenia won 6:1 against Liechtenstein and 2:0 against Kazakhstan and is currently leading in the group.

The victory against Liechtenstein is by far the biggest win for the Armenian team. The match also saw the first-ever hat trick by the women’s team.

“Liechtenstein is a very experienced team. We trained hard because it was the first match of the Nations League. The coaching staff had studied our opponent very well. It wasn’t an easy match for us, even though we won 6:1,” Artin said.

Speaking about the match against Kazakhstan, Artin said the Armenian team knew that the Kazakhs were tough opponents. “We clearly knew that the Kazakh team plays more aggressively. We realized they were not gonna let us dictate our game,” she said.

The captain said that her team is still too young and is gradually becoming a big family. The team was formed just five years ago.

The younger and older generations in the team seem to complement each other quite well.

“We’ve been working together for many years and now we have become a true team. And as captain I am doing everything for us to be a family. We are becoming a complete team with true sports spirit. The team underwent many changes throughout the years, and it is noticeable from match to match. Our goal is to have continuous victories,” Artin said.

The captain said that Luxembourg, Armenia’s next opponent, seems to be the toughest rival in the group.
